Billy Gogo & Meagan Liptak June 3-24, 2018

Photography and Painting by

Billy Gogo and Meagan Liptak

June 3 through June 24, 2018

The Klamath Art Gallery presents an exceptional photography and art exhibit by award winning local photographer Billy Gogo and local artist, Meagan Liptak. The opening reception for the artists will be held on Sunday, June 3rd, from noon to 4 PM. The exhibit will continue through Sunday, June 24th

In Gogo’s words, “I’m an enthusiastic award-winning published photographer with years of experience. The art of photography has always been rewarding for me not only as personal creative expression but as an appreciation for the art itself, always trying to project a visual and emotional intent into the viewer’s imagination." Or, to quote Ansel Adams, "A photograph is always looked at – seldom looked into.”
After moving to Southern Oregon in 2005, digital technologies were making a presence, so he took a break from photography. However, he immensely enjoyed the mountains, streams and wildlife in the area and knew they would be even better to experience behind the lens. Gogo was aware that digital technology had the potential to capture nature's beauty in new and exciting ways, so he decided to plunge in and see where the journey would take him. Fortunately, the learning curve was not nearly as steep as he anticipated because, for Gogo, photography is so much more than simply creating images with f/stops and lens selections. The art of today's digital photography is full of opportunities that allow him to continue to improve his craft while enjoying the beauty of Oregon. Gogo’s many accolades and awards include a finalist in National Geographic Travel Magazine and the June 2014 most trending image on Your Shot, Ducks Unlimited cover photo, international grand winner of Wild Animals photo contest and several Lucie Awards.
Liptak is a somewhat local artist who spent most of her childhood nearby in Siskiyou County. She attended OIT in 2008-2012 to pursue a career in dental hygiene. Just before graduation she met a man in the military who quickly became her husband. Meagan and her husband Nathan are an active duty military family that move every two to three years.
It was in Okinawa Japan while serving Nathan’s three-year assignment, that Meagan discovered she had a love for painting. After attending a tipsy painter art class, she went to a local Japanese art store and purchased a beginner set of acrylic paints and canvas. In 2015 Meagan and Nathan moved back to Klamath Falls to serve his following military assignment. This is where she really started getting more serious about canvas painting.
Liptak loves to work with vibrant color schemes, creating mostly landscapes and abstract floral pieces. She has found painting to be both relaxing and an exciting way to creatively express herself. “I can easily lose all sense of time when I paint. It truly is my happy place.”
